State of the Game

Hosted ByRod Morri, Geoff Shackelford and Mike Clayton

State of the Game was one of the first and is still considered one of the best golf podcasts in the world. Hosted by respected blogger and Golf Channel regular Geoff Shackelford, former European Tour player turned course architect Mike Clayton and long time golf writer Rod Morri this is ‘the golf podcast that talks about stuff that matters.’

Episode 9: SOG Ep 9 “One of sport’s great upsets…”

While the US Open unfolds at Olympic this week there will be plenty of talk about the 1955 event at this venue and the incredible upset victory of Iowa club profesional Jack Fleck over Ben Hogan. Neil Sagabiel of the Armchair Golf Blog has written a fabulous book about events leading up to, and during, that remarkable Open and joins Rod Morri and Mike Clayton to talk about the five year publishing journey that led to Golf’s Longest Shot: Jack Fleck, Ben Hogan and Pro Golf’s Greatest Upset at the 1955 US Open. Chock full of interesting tid-bits and details, and a hole by hole account of the play-off itself, The Longest Shot is a must read for anybody with an interest in the history of golf.
